Reeses on the new cat tree by kuroitenshi13 Reeses on the new cat tree by kuroitenshi13
So, this cat tree is huge, not amazingly sturdy, but enough for our 15ish lb cat.  Now, a bit of backstory.  Reeses is the 2nd to last cat to be added to the family.  My sis found her at our elementary school by herself about 8 weeks old and we took her in.  Unfortunately at that time we already had 4 cats.  So the poor thing got pushed aside and well, she hid all the time.  As the other cats got old and were put to sleep she started to come up from the basement after everyone but myself went to bed.  So, I had started to work with her about 3-4 years ago.  She use to bite, and bat at everyone.  I remember the last time she bit me.  I didn't handle it as well as I could have, I bopped her on the nose, but I think something connected because she never did it again.  Every night after that I'd sit next to her on the sofa after she'd come up and just pet her.  It took awhile, but she actually got rather affectionate.

Then, after my sis moved out to get a house with her hubby some months later she asked if we were trade Reeses for her ferret.  We did so, because we couldn't deal with her peeing all over the carpet anymore and really didn't know what to do about it.  That was 1-2 years ago.

Over this Christmas get together, Reeses has been left with us once more, she hasn't been doing well at my sis's with the addition of her two husky's.

Okay, now TODAY, the thing we should have had in this house ages ago, we got a cat tree.  I wasn't sure how Reeses would take to it as we've NEVER had anything this high ever in the house.  It took about an hour to put together, I had a little help from my mah.  And at first she wanted nothing to do with it.  So, I'm nervous, I know she isn't acting like a normal cat.  But trying to be hopeful.  I suggest that we needed to get some catnip in hopes to draw her up on to it and not want to jump off it right away.  Well, mah came home with a nice size jaw of the stuff and I start to sprinkle it in little bits all over it.  I'm thinking she'll go to one or two spots and then be done with it.  Nope, she's been on it for 2 hours now.  I'm soooo excited.  She even curled up in the top box and actually fell asleep.  I've never actually seen her sleeping before.  She's so always on alert.  Now, I just hope we can keep this up and get the litterbox thing straightened out.

Holy crap, that cat tree is amazing.  *_*  We got one for our cats on Black Friday, though nothing to this scale! XD  That's how we got them to use it, too, we put catnip all over the thing, because for the first few days they were scared of it.  Catnip really did the trick, now it's their favorite thing.  Hopefully now that your kitty's happier, she'll start using the litterbox properly.

btw, bopping each other on the nose is how cats tell each other "no," so as long as you're doing it no harder than a cat would swat, it's actually a really effective way to stop your cat from biting or scratching.  With my one cat who used to be a biter, I only had to tap her nose once or twice before she got the message.

I hope so too, she doesn't get on it much though unless we cover the thing.  But she got sick because we gave her too much, so I don't want to do that to her again even if she loves the stuff.  XD  The tree itself I looked up on amazon for like 2+ hours, I wanted something that had the height 73" because I want her to use it to get away instead of hiding, but it isn't working that well, I'm hoping it's just because it's new.

Okay, I do remember seeing/reading that.  She's been so good about it thankfully ever since.  She even tried nipping me the other night, but her teeth didn't even touch me, like she started and then stopped, I was shocked in several ways.

Aw, that's too bad.  Our cats are too dumb to realize they can eat catnip, so they just kind of roll around in it and act derpy.  XD  It'll probably just take her some time to get used to the fact that it belongs to her; one of our cats would only go on ours in the middle of the night for the first couple weeks.  I think she probably thought she was going to get in trouble for scratching furniture. ^_^;

HA!  And she will eat it all, to the point of bad things.  I really have to cut it back.  And it will, I'm just glad to see her go up on it or even sitting next to me on the sofa is nice.

Indeed, now she just needs to realize it.
Omg, this is so cool!!! *___* I wish I had one but it would probably proof useless, as my kitty is so weird and she never uses cat accesories I get ^^; (like pillows or cat scratching posts >.<). Se never touched a strore bought scratcher, ever. Doesn't sit on cat-designed pillows ^^; She instists on sitting on all of MY pillows, MY chair and everywhere in the house that she pleases atm, lol (never had one chosen spot, like cats typically do) :P Also gladly scratches furniture, never the sisal thingy ^^; (no clue why, maybe she doesn't like the scent or something :P)

She likes those things, especially after you just used them as they are WARM~  Heehee.  Have you ever tried to use the catnip or other cat food related treats to get her to use them?  The cat has to understand that if they use this good things are related to it and the best way is with food thing.

Good on the last part, I think.
Actually, she ignores the pet store-bought catnip as well ^^; I have no idea why... >.< Maybe it was old :P (it looked like dry herbs and I didn't smell any distinctive scent myself, honestly...) She gets crazy over anything that does have mint in it though ;p I have liquid mint stomach medicine that especially kicks her off XD. So maybe it's a good idea, to rub some of it lightly on the scraper and see what happens :giggle:
While we're discussing cute animals and their habits, I think you might enjoy this video, I know I did ^^:…
