Wow, so many days I missed, but Dragon*con was amazing~

Didn't leave until very late Thrus night/early Friday morning, something like 2:30am.  Everyone was already tired and we ended up all passing out at a rest spot just past OH line.  Morgan kept falling asleep at the wheel so I'm glad he did stop.  That was about 2 hours and then we were back on the road again, I was very worried we were going to get in like 4-5pm, but we actually got in about 2pm which was awesome since it was early enough that there was tons of stuff to do.  I waited in Reg line for about an hour which really wasn't bad at all.  Before then I had met up with Fory-san and got into my cosplay.  I started making friends left and right.  So many fun and interesting people to talk to.  Handed out at least half of the rest of the cards I had left.  For Nov I'm actually going to have a new design, mainly because my art has come a long way since then.  And I want to update any info I want to change maybe font as well.  Anyways.  After I got my badge and which I think I had been distracted enough to leave my notebook I got from Vampirejaku ( ;___; ) I went onto searching everything out.  I hit the dealer's room.  Believe it or not, it really wasn't big at all.  (Still trying to figure out the difference between dealer's and exhibitors, the only thing I can think of is location and possibly how much you're paying for a table), I didn't pick anything up from the dealer's room, but I did bother Peter for a bit and gave him the drawing I posted up on my dA, he really liked it and told me a story about how it looks like his grandfather that he never got to meet, but he had family that painted him.  How interesting.  Also said hello to all the dealers I'm friends with, it was good to see them.  I forgot to stop by and say hello to Jen a 2nd time, but I was sort of distracted.  I also found someone in the dealer's room that sold Angel cards, so I asked if he had season 1 regs, he said maybe, he'd have to check, but he couldn't do it until more of the table got cleared off as they had not had enough room.  Personally I would have maybe piled some more on top, but that's me.  I know why he didn't.  Then, I wandered upstairs to the exhibitor hall rooms.  The first Sherri was at the end of it.  I saw so many neat things, I wish I had had more money, but at least at Sherri's table I was able to pick up the first manga, finally and the Five Seasons of Angel book, I'm almost done reading it already, I love different takes on the characters and the series.  Peter also did a chapter of it as well.  BONUS!  The 2nd room was cool, but I just sort of skimmed through it.  The walk of fame was next.  I happened to pick a time where Nimoy, Shatner and Mulgrue (sorry about the spelling on the last one) were out giving autographs.  Awesome.  I couldn't afford them, but at least I can say I was less than 20 feet away, and watched them for a minute or two.  Heading in I found that the people that I did get autographs for said no photography.  Figures.  I got Charisma Carpenter's and Julie Benz.  Very pleased by both of those, full the Angel tv obsession~  Charisma grew back out here hair and it's natural she still looks lovely and about the same size she was during the series.  She looked at my season 2 box and said, "Which season is this?" I told her "This doesn't look like the same cover" so I'm wondering if she's comparing it to the thinkpak or something else I'm unaware of.  Then she noticed these two people behind me that were being a little shy dressed in stream punk outfits.  So she starts asking them what steam punk is, like is it a tv or movie or something. (I found it adorable) and they didn't seem to want to answer so I thought I would offer what I could to help bridge the gap, I was there for a reason, right?  It took a few different explanations because steam punk is sort of it's own thing, I started off calling it a genre: much like scifi, romance, fantasy, etc and then trying to get into more details what it represents.  One of them did say the "Sky Capt of Tomorrow" and thinking of duh that is a good example.  Anyways, at least that conversation was less scary then with Marina Spirits about furs.  I didn't step into that convo.  Next was Julie who is of tiny frame, like I'm not sure how tall she is, I haven't got to IMDB (she was sitting the whole time) but her bone structure is TINY.  Still gorgeous as well.  I told her how much I admired her work on Angel and that I watch her on Dexter and I'm so glad that she is still busy with work.  She seemed appreciative at that.  I also wandered around saying hello to other people and chatting with them if they weren't busy even though I was broke.  Of course had to say hi to George Lowe, I was sorry to hear he wasn't doing too well, but it was still only friday.  Talked to this guy who took my photo and found out that he was the voice of the man in charge of Wild Geese in Hellsing OAV IV, so another reason why I need to get that one soon.  I'll probably have to get it online since I can't find it in T-town.  He was very nice though and we chatted for awhile.  Also  said hello and chatted with Justine and Joe from TAPS, Justine is also of smaller frame (making him oober skinny) and he's better looking in person than I woul dhave thought.  Joe was much darker than I would have thought, but he's the type that can tan and tan and tan.  They were both very nice to talk to.  Sadly Jason and Grant weren't over there at the time so I didn't get to say hello to them and I waved to Steve who I think may have recognized me, since I didn't get the chance to ask, I'll never know.  And lastly I got to speak shortly with Ron Glass, I hadn't got to do that in 07 so I said I would and he didn't have a lot of people there at the moment.  He is a sweet man and if I can I would like to get his autograph, maybe next year.  I think after all that the exhaustion of being on my feet for several hours was setting in so I headed back to the hotel with Fory-san and relaxed for the rest of the night, found out again list most hotels in downtown they charge and arm and a leg for internets.  Oh, before I settled in for the night I also went to the Cinamatic Titanic which was funny, but not as funny as original MST3K though Dr Forrester, Pearl and TV's Frank was there which was cool.  Also got to chat with Luna on the phone for awhile, I think I'm boring to talk to on the phone, but she put up with me.  I ended up going to be early, but it didn't work so well because Fory-san and Kurt brought back people (which would have been fine, except they were kind of loud talking both going to bed and getting up the next morning).

Saturday:  I was up early to make sure I found the parade on time.  I got into my get up for Sherri's group and so I got to hang out with her and I also got to see Markus aka Nick.  *laughs*  Series related.  Anyways, he looks good, but I guess he's been having some issues.  I might try giving him a call in a few weeks just see if he wants someone to talk to.  I don't know unless I try, right?  Okay, let's see.  The parade was a ton of fun minus the part the humidity was up so high I was melting.  I made some more friends, and one I hung out with after, we hit the dealer's room and I found out that guy did have the season one reg set so I grabbed that, putting me down to change for the rest of the weekend.  I was fine with that, since I only had 100 and change, it honestly was what I was expecting.  I also bugged Peter again, I can't remember if it was friday or sat I had him sign the book I brought with me.  But I did talk to him and the artist of the covers and some other pieces.  OMFG she was a real life faerie, I kid you not.  I got a pic of her from far away that I will share when I get my camera back.  Then hung out with my new friend until Sherri's panel at 2:30, we were 100 or so back in the line but we still were able to get good seats.  She talked about a lot of things and I know for next year I need to be caught up again.  Maybe I'll work on a couple of books before I get paid and then grab the one book I'm missing so I can catch up on her DH stuff.  I realized that waiting around for her panel I missed another one I wanted to go to, but it wasn't a big deal.  I then went and checked out the artshow/AA which wow, there were lots of wonderful artists in there.  I specially had to stop by and chat with the person I found out is taking over the art for Angel: After the Fall, I want to get one of his limited covers, it's amazing and a good price.  I also saw my friend Heather from Gen and Con on the Cob.  She told me that Jen of Cakewrecks was there and sadly I didn't get to meet her.  I also met someone I watch on FA and a couple more interesting people, especially this lady that does Art Nouveau style.  And I brought my stuff to her on Sunday, she might want to do a trade because her daughters love SM.  WOO!  She also has a good size metal doll chair that is for sale.  I didn't ask how much I'll do that later.  I ended up missing another panel while I was down there, mainly because of how early you need to get in line for stuff.  When I got back to the room Tiff called and so we ended up hanging out the rest of the evening since she's living down there currently.  I only did a little bit of drawing, mostly talking and getting to hit up Chick-ful-a which was really close to the hotel, underground, wooo~  Highlight.  Then I got some sleep.

Sunday: Up earlyish so I could go to Patrick Stewart's Capt Picard panel.  I was like I'm not missing this and let me tell you, that was totally worth being in line for well over an hour.  While waiting, I met this lovely Prof and Writer, so I showed her the art I had on me, since she knows almost nothing about anime she didn't have any preconceptions about it and very much liked some of my pieces.  And I gave her my card, I very much hope she contacts me, I might send her some of my writing for a 2nd opinion.  We got good seats considering we were in the 400s in head count.  I took some photos and videos of some of the questions, OMFG he is funny.  I loved some of the stories he told.  My fave is him accidentally grabbing Gates breasts.  Oh my amusement.  Best hour of the whole weekend, I almost cried seeing him.  I don't get that very much.  After that, I had planned to go to Sherri's 5:30pm signing but I lost my bracelet...which I later found attached to a piece of clothing in my luggage, this was after I checked it three times.  So I waited around and started reading the Five Seasons of Angel.  Then I went to 7pm Beat the Geeks for SGverse, that was fun to watch, sadly I haven't seen enough of the series to go up and participate.  The guy hosting it did look a lot like McKay.  *laughs*  That was much fun.  After that, I started back for the hotel, on the way back I actually walked by Felicia Day, she was less than a foot from me, wooooo.  I would have loved to have talked to her, but her face said she was preoccupied.  And then I chatted with some people from AZ that noticed me and called me over.  I felt bad because I didn't recognize them right away.  Still we had a nice 10-20 min chat and then I was back at the room.  I got to relax and pack and talk with Luna some more before I read and watched Distrubia before Fory-san and Kurt came back and then I talked with them and ate some food and passed out so I could get up early yet again on Monday.

Monday:  Finished what little packing I had left, making sure I didn't miss anything and then walked with all of my bags from the Weston to the Hyatt, about 2 blocks away, I did it though and there was also no line for the Farscape panel I was wanting to hit up at 10am.  Woo.  I was very excited, I've been a fan for a few years and getting to see Brower and Black up there also made my weekend.  I also found out that they are finally releasing the series in one box.  I got a coupon for 10% off this one site.  I need to look into that.  And that they are thinking/trying to do more episodes (webisods) and money is the big problem, don't blame them there.  And you could tell how much they loved talking about the show.  I love people that love what they do.  I took photos and video in that one as well, though not as much even though I was closer.  Because there was three of them, another character as well who was another Capt but I can't remember his name (feels bad) that they didn't get through many questions.  And Brower doesn't want to go back to his class reunion, not that I blame him either, who wants to go back and talk to people that they were never friend's with in HS?  Then I went off to Sherri's signing after being able to get my stuff into the car, that was...um...interesting.  And the signing was quick and worked out well, I was reading the whole time I was in line.  I got a hug from Sherri and I told her I would see her next year.  I do want to email her with some things though.  And then it was off to the Lost and found again to see if anyone had turned into my notebook, no and no, but at least I can say I did everything I could to get it back.  Then I waited over by the car of an hour and a half waiting for the other two to get back and we could get on the road.  Had a nice dinner of shrimp and fries and even though we made several stops on the way back home, still got in a little after 4am even after leaving 4:30pm on Monday.  Pleased.  So I had enough time to sleep and write this and still have some time left before I head to gaming tonight.  I'll also hopefully be able to sketch out the comic I want to do for thrus related to the con.  @___@  I need to budget my time for tomorrow so I might not be online for talking much weds.

So that was the con, I had much much fun and can't wait to do it again.  And today more good news, the half of trade for me game today, I now have Moon, Merc, Mars, Venus, Mask, Princess, Black Lady, Pluto, Uranus, Neptune and Jupiter from before of the Lt blue box release SM dolls.  *dances*  They look all very nice, I want to take then out, but honestly I have no place to displace them for the moment.  Someday though.  Photos when I get my camera back from my ride's car.

Comic is NOT on hiatus. [link]

Oh wow. Seems like you've had some wonderful time^^ I've read through the whole journal entry, but-sadly- I didn't know what ppl/stuff you were talking about, as I'm not much of a fantasy luver and tend to know only old-school anime/manga titles :( I googled some names however, and I think I recognized 'July' to be 'Julie Benz'? :P Am I right with that one? (Btw, you really SHOULD add surnames for stupid ppl like meh :sweatdrop:; it took me some time on IMDB to figure out who were you talking about, as I don't know modern actors names to much either ;p; I joined 'Angel' (which I had no idea, what is, as I never watched this series :P; I thought it might be a book/manga or a person even:P) with 'Dexter' cast and Julie Benz came out) If I am right with that, it's really cool you've met her, I did watch the 3 Dexter seasons and I believe the 4th have started in the US,ne?:> Julie looks like a really tiny person plus she's very beautiful, so I guess you could be reffering to her afterall, as you've mentioned 'tiny bone structur' :) Anyways, there's not much I can say as I don't know other stuff you were reffering to or the ppl you've gone there with :p I DID just check the official Dragon con site and it looks like it was pretty cool there ^^ I also found out that it was about fantasy as such, not just manga/anime which I thought it was at first. Anyways, Im glad you went and enjoyed and hope to see the pics once you have you're camera back ;) I , myself, have only be on cons twice and they were pure m/a ones, I had some fun, but Im not that good at being sociable with new ppl during such gatherings :sweatdrop: It's mostly because Im a bit insecure person and I know my manga/anime/book knowledge is not too big, I mainly DRAW stuff in this style (and mostly SM related, as this is my one-and-only-fav anime). I might consider attending a convention however, once I see one happening in the area, seeing other pl, like you, have so much fun there! (I still would dread coming up to ppl like that and making friends :sweatdrop: -Im sooo unsocianle ;p The ONLY time when Im good(and I mean, really GOOD ) at being sociable, is when I go out for some clubbing and get drunk as hell :P) Sory for the loooooooooong post, hope you don't mind it, hun  And get those pictures crackin!!!! (I got it you cosplayed? I wanna know who and how it looked :cries:!!!!) byebye

Sorry Charisma Carpenter was Cordelia from Buffy and Angel tv. Julie Benz was Darla from the same series as Charisma and she's also currently on Dexter.

Peter is Peter S Beagle who wrote the Last Unicorn novel as well as some other books.

Dragon*con actually deals very little with anime/manga. Most of their guest are media (tv/movies) related, then some voice actors and of course artists.

I love Dragon*con, actually way more than anime cons. At least the ones I've been to in the last couple of years, they aren't the same then when I first started going to cons which is why I don't like them as much now. I'm hoping it's not the same for you.

I don't mind the long post, it just took me a bit to get through it. It's funny the only time I really am social is at cons. And as far as manga and anime go anymore, I don't watch anything new, so if the person is say more than 7 years younger than me, we could have big problems because they probably haven't seen anything I have besides SM. Which would work on its own as long as they had gone and seen some of the Japanese version. If you ever want to chat with me we should do emails or something. *hugs* I'd move to talk to you more about things, in greater detail.

 Thanks for all the explanation, you're very kind  I'm 24 myself and I've noticed that ppl who are in late teens in my country know completely different m/a titles then I do ^^ That's just the effect of the gap age and diff stuff that was on tv, I guess :B

That and I've found that really access to the net hasn't expanded any of their anime watching. When I got into anime I didn't have internet until 3 years later. So I did everything I could to snatch up what was available, not to mention that only like 3-4 series were on tv at the time. But now, even though there is more anime out there and easier to get, people only talk about the same shows that are on tv, like they can't be bothered to get out of the trendy box.

Sorry for spamming, but what's the 'dealer's room' or 'dealers'? ^^; (sorry for my lack of basic knowledge )

For some reason I don't think I got this comment. The Dealer's room is a place where Dealers (people that sell items such as cards or patches, or figures or DVDs, tshirts etc) sell these items. Does that help?
